Pour désigner cette nouvelle réalité – les couples non stériles qui ne font pas d’enfant-, les anglopgones distinguent les childless et les childfree, et les Allemands parlent de Kinderlosigkeit, expression qui signifie l’ideal de l’absence d’enfant.

L’installazione video per tre schermi Stop Kidding è stata realizzata nel 2002 nel centro sociale bolognese TPO ex-Euraquarium. In primo piano davanti alla telecamera si susseguono quarantatré persone che ripetono la stessa frase: “Io non farò figli per questo paese”, una promessa o forse una minaccia, esplicitamente diretta contro l’Italia, che l’anno precedente aveva riportato al potere Silvio Berlusconi. Un lavoro amoroso, rabbioso e patetico insieme.
Il 13 novembre 2002, all’indomani dell’European Social Forum di Firenze, la trasmissione Blob ha trasmesso su Rai Tre alcuni frammenti del video, intercalati a immagini di cronaca e di trasmissioni andate in onda su altri canali. Un testo racconta la vicenda che ha portato il video alla Galleria Civica di Trento, alla rete satellitare temporanea e indipendente Global TV, a Blob, a una mostra del circuito GAI Giovani Artisti di Padova e alla 50ma Biennale d’Arte di Venezia.
The video installation for three screens Stop Kidding was made in 2002 at the Bolognese TPO ex–Euraquarium social centre. In the foreground forty–three people pass in succession in front of the camera repeating the same words: “Io non farò figli per questo paese” (“I’m not going to have children for this country”), a promise or perhaps a threat, explicitly aimed at Italy, which the year before had voted Silvio Berlusconi back into power. A work that is at once loving, angry and touching.
On November, 13th 2002, the day after the European Social Forum was held in Florence, the Blob TV programme on Rai Tre broadcast several pieces of the video, interspersed with images from the news and from programmes broadcast on other channels. A text tells the story of how the video was shown at the Galleria Civica in Trento, on the temporary and independent satellite network Global TV and on Blob, at an exhibition on the GAI Giovani Artisti circuit in Padua and at the 50th Venice Biennale.
