Non è così facile dottore. Per trovare pace ci vuole del vero genio. E’ tutta una questione di discernimento. Come dice Sprown: Non siamo peccatori perché pecchiamo, ma pecchiamo perché siamo peccatori. Più semplicemente: non siamo malvagi perché facciamo il male, ma facciamo il male perché siamo malvagi. Del resto che scelta ha certa gente? Non è che abbiamo molta altra scelta.

It’s not so easy, doctor.
To find rest it takes a real genius. It’s just a matter of discernment.
Now I see Sprown saying: We are not sinners because we sin but we sin because we are sinners.
In more accessible terms: we’re not evil because of the evil we do, but we do evil because we are evil.
And what choice do such people have. It’s not like we have any options.

Questa serie fotografica, realizzata tra l’estate e l’autunno 2007 all’estrema periferia di Roma, una terra di nessuno stritolata dallo sfruttamento immobiliare, compone una sorta di pastorale: terra, cielo, baracche, centri commerciali, stormi di storni, cani, gatti, pecore, velli di pecore, sole, erba, fango. E vita. E morte.
È anche un’epifania contemporanea: appena al di là di un cancello c’è un mondo antichissimo e moderno. Il padrone del gregge sorveglia dalla sua macchina blindata i pastori moldavi che accudiscono le bestie e fanno il lavoro sporco. I moldavi vivono con i loro cani in una baracca di lamiera. Anche il padrone sta sempre lì: vive in macchina, non scende mai.
In questo stesso luogo è stato girato uno degli episodi di Ghost Track (2007), accompagnato dalla colonna sonora di The Addiction di Abel Ferrara, con la voce demoniaca di Annabella Sciorra/vampiro che prova compassione per le vittime di cui si nutre.
This series of photographs, taken between the summer and the autumn of 2007 on the far outskirts of Rome, a no–man’s land devastated by property speculation, composes a sort of pastorale: land, sky, shacks, shopping centres, storms of starlings, dogs, cats, sheep, fleeces, sun, grass, mud. And life. And death.
It is also a contemporary epiphany: just the other side of a gate lies a very ancient and modern world. From his bullet–proof car the owner of the flock keeps an eye on the Moldavian shepherds who are looking after the animals and doing the dirty job. The Moldavians live with their dogs in a hut of sheet–iron. The boss is always there too: he lives in his car, never getting out. One of the episodes of Ghost Track (2007) was shot in the same place, accompanied by the soundtrack of Abel Ferrara’s The Addiction, read in the devilish voice of Annabella Sciorra, a vampire who feels compassion for the victims on which she feeds.
