Un registratore a bobine riproduce una conversazione proveniente da un’intercettazione telefonica. È un lungo dialogo in cui fra silenzi e non detti si dipana una relazione di potere. Il primo protagonista, lo chiameremo B, esercita una grande influenza: ha distribuito favori e privilegi e ora ha a sua volta necessità di appoggio. Il secondo, lo chiameremo A, è diventato a sua volta potentissimo grazie a B e mette in gioco, mai esplicitamente, il potere che ha acquisito nella relazione. Fra i due si può leggere in trasparenza, in modo mai esplicito, una relazione padre-figlio: A è forse il figlio che B avrebbe voluto.
B: Che dovevo fa’, dovevo ammazzarlo per non trascurarlo?
A: …bono
B: E figli dell’altri, te faccio 30 nomi? Te li faccio tutti! Non voglio nemmeno permettermi di confrontarmi con voi, però dico, tu a trent’anni era già a capo di un piccolo impero, questo non c’ha neanche un posto da usciere, tanto per essere chiari
A: Certo…
B: Permetterai che uno è un po’ incazzato, no?
A: Sì, fino a un certo punto
B: Rimane sempre il figlio di un dio minore, questo vorresti dire?
A reel-to-reel tape recorder plays back a conversation tapped from a telephone call. It’s a long dialogue in which amidst silences and things left unsaid a relationship of power emerges. The first speaker, whom we’ll call B, exercises great influence: he has granted favours and privileges and now it is his turn to ask for help. The second, we’ll call him A, has also become very powerful thanks to B and brings into play, though never explicitly, the power that he has acquired in the relationship. Between the two it is possible to discern, in a way that is never explicit, a father-son relationship: A is perhaps the son that B would have liked to have.
B: What should I have done, should I have killed him so as not to neglect him?
A: …steady
B: And other people’s children, shall I name thirty of them? I’ll name them all to you! I don’t even want to let myself go on arguing with you lot, but I’ll tell you this, at the age of thirty you were already at the head of a little empire. He doesn’t even have a janitor’s job, to make it plain
A: Sure…
B: You’ll allow that someone can be a bit pissed off, no?
A: Yes, up to a point
B: He’ll always be the child of a lesser god, is that what you’re trying to say?
