Senza titolo è un intervento che riflette sullo spazio architettonico, ampliandone i limiti e giocando con la curiosità e la sorpresa. L’opera si presenta come un semplice spioncino nel muro; avvicinandosi l’osservatore riesce a intravedere l’ambiente retrostante, una piccola Wunderkammer in cui sono stati inseriti oggetti che fanno parte del patrimonio del gruppo – libri, dischi, animali impagliati, nastri magnetici ecc. –, un teatrino animista che parla una lingua segreta. Come recita l’LP di Ornette Coleman in primo piano: Tomorrow is the Question. La comunicazione voyeuristica tra spazi diversi rovescia le aspettative, presentando al pubblico oggetti disparati e fuori contesto che mescolano la loro vita apparentemente inerte alle normali attività del museo (MACRO, Roma) e vi si installano come totem dormienti.
Attualmente l’opera è conservata nel magazzino del museo e il suo imballaggio è stato fotografato in occasione dell’allestimento della mostra Retrofuturo, Appunti per una collezione a cura di Luca Lo Pinto, MACRO – Museo d’Arte Contemporanea Roma, 2021.
Untitled is an intervention that reflects on the architectural space, extending its limits and playing with curiosity and surprise. The work is presented as a simple peep hole in the wall; coming close the observer manages to catch a glimpse of the setting behind, a small Wunderkammer in which objects forming part of the group’s heritage are inserted – books, records, stuffed animals, magnetic tape reels etc. –, a small animist theatre that speaks a secret language. As recited on the vinyl cover by Ornette Coleman: Tomorrow is the Question. The voyeuristic communication between different spaces overturns expectations, by presenting various and out-of-context objects to the public that mix their apparently inert life with the normal activities of the museum MACRO (Rome) and are installed there as dormant totems.
The work is currently stored in the museum’s warehouse and its packaging was photographed on the occasion of the exhibition Retrofuture, Notes for a collection at MACRO curated by Luca Lo Pinto, 2021.
